"Green Planet"s Training on Environment and Natural Disasters Have Started

The "Green Planet" project, implemented with the collaboration of Vodafone Turkey Foundation and Habitat Association to raise children's environmental awareness, started to give training to children. The project was first launched by providing 1,000 children aged 7-14 in different provinces of Turkey with online training on climate change, recycling, electronic waste recycling, sustainability, and natural disasters.

After providing trainers with the necessary training, the "Green Planet" project, implemented with the collaboration of Vodafone Turkey Foundation and Habitat Association to raise children's environmental awareness and help them become competent in sustainability, started to give training to children. The project was first launched by providing 1,000 children aged 7-14 in different provinces of Turkey with online training on climate change, recycling, electronic waste recycling, sustainability, and natural disasters. Following the training, the project's participants will join an idea marathon.

Mr. Hasan Süel, the Chair of Vodafone Turkey Foundation , stated:

"Environmental problems are now a global concern. We believe it is significant to raise our children's awareness about environmental problems at a young age. Raising eco-conscious individuals and generations that will gain sustainability awareness is also crucial for our nation. In this regard, we are happy that the Ministry of National Education has recently included the subjects of climate change, environmental awareness, and zero waste in the curriculum. With the 'Green Planet' project, implemented under the roof of the Vodafone Turkey Foundation in collaboration with the Habitat Association, we are also pleased to contribute to this goal. As part of the project, we have completed our trainers' training. We have started to provide our children with awareness training. However, application process for training is still ongoing. We believe that at the end of the project, our children who have finished their training will be able to produce digital solutions for environmental problems. By growing up with the awareness of protecting our planet, these children will be able to become climate ambassadors in their close circles. We will continue to work for a greener, more livable, and more sustainable planet."

Mr. Sezai Hazır, the Board Chair of Habitat Association , also stated:

"In the Anthropocene age, we encounter environmental problems and witness the increasing effects of climate change every day. We are aware that we only have one planet. We believe it is significant to increase the awareness that we, as humans, should live in harmony with all life forms on earth, whether living or non-living. The future of our planet requires raising awareness of individuals of all ages on environmental awareness and sustainability. In this respect, we collaborated with Vodafone Turkey Foundation and implemented the Green Planet project to increase children's awareness of the environment, sustainability, and natural disasters. As part of our project, we organize online training via volunteer trainers and help children become eco-sensitive individuals. With the Kidathon event to be organized within the project, we will also discover our children's solution proposals regarding these issues and provide them with the necessary support for implementing their ideas. Also, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our volunteers for their continuous contributions to the project. As Habitat Association, we will do our share for a greener planet."

Environmental awareness and coding training together

With the "Green Planet" project, which was designed as part of the "Coding Tomorrow" project implemented in collaboration with Vodafone Turkey Foundation and Habitat Association, synchronous and asynchronous training are organized to raise the awareness of students aged 7-14. Training cover topics such as "What is the Environment?", "Sustainability and Climate Change", "Waste, Recycling, and Electronic Waste", and "Natural Disasters". Online training is then completed after children have received their environmental awareness training. Following the online training, children continue the process with "Coding Tomorrow" training. This training aims to help children strengthen the knowledge they have learned so far and create solutions to world problems. Children who complete their training can watch the content titled "So what can I do now?" which will be shared on the online platform and will increase their awareness of sustainability and natural disasters. The last stage: Kidathon

At the final stage of the "Green Planet" project, a competition named "kidathon" will be organized. The competition will be organized in two stages on climate change, electronic waste recycling, recycling, sustainability, and natural disasters. In this competition, students who received awareness training are expected to produce solutions to world problems. While a minimum of 150 students are expected to join the competition, the first three primary school teams and the first three secondary school teams will be selected and awarded by the jury.
