"Coding Tomorrow" Supports Our Girls Who Say ‘I Exist’ in Basketball

Girl basketball players have also joined the "Coding Tomorrow" project, implemented in partnership with Vodafone Turkey Foundation and Habitat Association. To date, the collaboration with the Women's Basketball Solidarity Association has reached 34 girls with three different training. The training will continue until the end of October.

Vodafone Turkey Foundation and Habitat Association continue to spread the "Coding Tomorrow" project, which they implemented jointly to raise children ready for the digital future, nationwide to reach more children. As part of the project, girl basketball players between 7-14 receive coding training in collaboration with the Women's Basketball Solidarity Association. Implemented to help girl basketball players learn other subjects, such as coding, besides sports, and develop themselves, the collaboration has reached34 children so far. After attending three different training, "Digital Coding Training: Scratch", "3D Design Training: Tinkercad" , and "Learning the Electronic World: Micro-bit", the participating children received their certificates. The training will continue until the end of October.

Mr. Hasan Süel, the Chair of Vodafone Turkey Foundation , stated:

"As Vodafone Turkey Foundation, we eagerly continue our 'Coding Tomorrow' project, which we launched with Habitat Association six years ago to raise generations ready for the digital future. As part of the project, which we have implemented to contribute to raising a generation that produces and does not consume, we provide children between 7-14 with training on coding, the language of the digital world. Until today, we have given coding training to over 210 children in 81 provinces. We value the participation of our girls in our project. Moreover, girls constitute 51% of our participants. Accordingly, we have started to give coding training to girl basketball players in partnership with the Women's Basketball Solidarity Association. With this training, we aim to help these students improve in other subjects, such as coding, besides sports. At Vodafone, we believe that women should also be included in the roles assigned to men in society and that this should be boldly emphasized. With this belief, we launched the 'I Exist' movement, working to combat the sexist perception. Accordingly, we value our collaboration with the Women's Basketball Solidarity Association and feel extremely happy to be with our girls who say 'I Exist' in basketball. I would like to take this opportunity to invite everyone to say 'I Exist' and support 100% equality."

Mr. Sezai Hazır, the Chair of Habitat Association , also stated:

"We feel right happy and proud to expand the scope of our Coding Tomorrow project, which we implemented with the collaboration of Vodafone Turkey Foundation 5 years ago and helped over 200,000 children in Turkey's 81 provinces meet with coding. Thanks to our collaboration with the Women's Basketball Solidarity Association, we provide girl basketball players across Turkey with coding training. Our girls, who have already achieved valuable successes in a highly significant branch such as basketball, develop their algorithmic thinking and coding skills with coding training. As someone who wholeheartedly believes in the unifying power of sports and its contribution to the development of an individual, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Women's Basketball Solidarity Association for the value they create and their contributions to our girls. As Habitat Association, we will continue to contribute to raising generations that are not only the users of technology but also the producers of it."

Fügen Kansak, the Chair of the Women's Basketball Solidarity Association , stated:

"At the Women's Basketball Solidarity Association, we make social project partnerships to strengthen and develop women's basketball in our country. As part of the 'KBDD 81 Provincial Girls Basketball Festival', we collaborated with Vodafone Turkey Foundation and Habitat Association to offer a scientific perspective to our girls who have recently started playing basketball. We are grateful to receive their unconditional support for our project. Our girl basketball players who joined the 'Coding Tomorrow' training are providing us with very positive feedback. We invite all our girls who play in the girls' basketball infrastructure in Turkey to join the 'Coding Tomorrow' training. We want to thank all our social project partners on behalf of our girls and Turkey's promising future."

Coding training to thousands of children

Within the "Coding Tomorrow" project, children between 7-14 across Turkey receive theoretical and practical training by volunteer trainers on various subjects, including the introduction to programming, algorithm logic, application development, storytelling, and game development. Our training helps our children understand programming, work to bring out their creativity, create their imaginary worlds, and produce their games. As part of the "Coding Tomorrow", which has reachedover 200,000 children in 81 provinces to date, 6,6 million TRY of social value was obtained last year, and each investment of 1 TRY for the project yielded a social return of 4,4 TRY.
