"Coding Tomorrow" Provides Coding Training to Girls
As part of the "Coding Tomorrow" project implemented byVodafone Turkey Foundation and Habitat Association to prepare children for the digital future, coding training was held for girls on February 11, International Day of Women and Girls in Science . 30 girls aged 7-14 from various provinces joined the online training. During the almost 4-hour-training, the participating girls received training on topics including an introduction to programming, algorithm logic, application development, creating stories, and producing games.
Mr. Hasan Süel, the Chair of Vodafone Turkey Foundation , stated:
"At Vodafone Turkey Foundation, we believe that each work we do should serve a purpose. With our 'Coding Tomorrow' project, which we implemented in cooperation with Habitat Association, we aim to contribute to raising a generation that produces and does not consume. Our daughters are a significant part of this generation. Until today, we have given coding training to over 110,000 children in 81 provinces. Half of these 110,000 children are girls. We are thrilled to see the interest shown by girls in our coding training. We believe that more girls should study science and technology. With the 'Coding Tomorrow' project, we will continue supporting our girls' development in this area. I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone's International Day of Women and Girls in Science."
Mr. Sezai Hazır, the Chair of Habitat Association, stated:
"At Habitat Association, we value and support gender equality and the active participation of women in all areas of society and life in all our activities. Accordingly, we worked to ensure our girls' active and extensive participation in all our training and activities during the 5 years of our 'Coding Tomorrow' project, which we implemented in collaboration with the Vodafone Turkey Foundation. Girls represent half of the over 110,000 children we have reached in the training we have held in 81 provinces of Turkey via our 550 volunteers. This fact makes us very happy and raises our hopes for the future. We will continue to support the development of our girls to raise outstanding female scientists and technology leaders of the future in the field of science and technology. Accordingly, we wanted to crown our goal by organizing special training for the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Mainly our female scientists and girls, who are our source of pride with their achievements in science and technology, I would like to congratulate everyone's International Day of Women and Girls in Science."
The project has reached over 110,000 children
Within the “Coding Tomorrow” project, children aged 7-14 across Turkey receive coding training. Our training helps our children understand programming, work to bring out their creativity, create their imaginary worlds, and produce their games. Since August 2016, the project has reached over 110,000 children across Turkey. While the number of girls leveraging the project exceeded 58,000, the number of boys surpassed 57,000. For the fifth year of the project, it is aimed to provide coding training to 70,000 more children.
